A Short History

Developer D.K.B. Sellers platted lots east of the city core in 1916, in an area that became known as Nob Hill. Route 66 was moved onto Central Avenue in 1937, and in 1947 the Nob Hill Business Center at Central and Carlisle opened as the first drive-in shopping center of its kind in New Mexico. The Pueblo Revival Monte Vista Fire Station, built in 1936 with WPA funds, still stands on Central. Part of the residential area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Monte Vista and College View Historic District.
